Who’s Afraid of Derrida?: Gumbrecht and the metaphysics of presence

ABSTRACT This paper proposes a reflection on the concept of presence theorized by Hans Ulrich Gumbrecht premised Heidegger’s thought, contrasting it with philosophy Jacques Derrida, especially in his deconstruction metaphysics presence. Accordingly, is neither matter tracing Heideggerian throughout oeuvre nor defending Derrida from accusations linguistic existentialism, but rather demonstrating that, having Heidegger as an ally, Gumbrecht’s crusade against and hermeneutic field ultimately restores them more strongly, thereby he commits to what aims oppose.
